Reflections on FT weekend 1 (part 3)
I’m proud to be part of this wonderful team having met up with so many people from different states whom are now my close friends. These are the circle of friends who share the common Lasallian vision and mission as me to make our community a better place.
Like Jason Tan, I’m really glad to be back for the recent Formation Team Weekend. I met up with so many old faces and new ones too.
The theme highlighted was about human rights. Meeting up with Jerald Joseph was indeed a great experience. We sang the song ‘Walk the Talk’ during our first session and he asked us whether we knew what we were singing. That’s where the fun began.
Many of us had so much fun singing the song that we forgot what the song really meant. That was where Jerald came in. He asked us whether we were REALLY walking the talk or just talking and not ‘walking’. Leaders are people who walk the talk. Jerald is a role model to many of us. Being a Lasallian and prominent human rights activist, he helped us to understand our basic rights as a human being and why they are being violated till today.
Learning and refreshing my memory on the basic rights were good because it helped me to understand and made me even more determined to exercise my rights. We had many discussions on a number of issues that revolve around us especially the recent Perak crisis, the abolishment of ISA and the beautiful and ugly side of our country incorporating the human rights theme. The response from the crowd was great and Jerald himself was impressed. Good job Lasallians!
Jerald later became our moderator for our group (we don’t have a specific group as we are waiting for our SPM and STPM results) to help us walk the talk by getting us involved in service learning. My group, consisting most from the 17th convention, did show the interest.
On the whole, I enjoyed the weekend and saying goodbye was the most difficult as two days wasn’t enough. Throughout the weekend, I learned to exercise my rights and make sure that I walk the talk like Lasallians ought to. I realize that simple actions do make a difference.

Reflections on FT weekend 1 (part 2)
To go back to La Salle Centre, Ipoh was like walking down memory lane again.. I look back at my own convention, 17th NLLC 2007, noticed how much has the Centre has changed such as new wiring and attached bathrooms at some rooms.. And how fast time flies.. I missed all those good time I had with my new found friends, the stuff we did.. Though it lasted for only a short period of time, yet the memories will be a lifetime..
Anyway, it was my 2nd FT meeting since the 1st one back in 2008.. Jerald Joseph was the speaker for this FT meeting and the main theme was on human rights.. And to put it simply, he is an awesome speaker.. He got us thinking, does everyone know his basic rights? Many people out there are exploited just because they are ignorant to this.. Don't have to look far, just look at the foreign workers in the factories.. I've actually worked with some of these people when I was working in Jusco.. These people are simple people, earning an honest leaving, yet they are pushed to the limits of man to do things like stacking up stock, carrying heavy items and etc.. Sometimes for no apparent reason they get scolded by their bosses, as the boss tries to find a way to release their anger..
Looking back, it's true that we need to be aware of these rights.. And we need to help others to realise it too.. We can't just stand on the pavement, just being onlookers as somebody is beaten for no apparent reason.. I'm not saying that each of us should be Superman, but we should challenge the boundaries, take the lead and make a difference.. Jerald has open our eyes to the cruel world out there, now it's left for us to answer the calling..
In short, it was nice to go back for FTs again.. Each time it's a new experience, new adventure and making new friends.. And with the regional OTs coming up, it's our responsibility to pass down these knowledge to younger La Sallians.. Keep the spirit burning brightly in our heart and soul..

Reflections on FT weekend 1
The FT weekend that just ended was one to be remembered, if not for its interesting subject matter then definitely for the participants.
We kick off this Post FT weekend series with a sharing from Shaun, an old boy of St Francis' Institution, Melaka.
Last weekend has been awesome as FT1 was held in La Salle Centre. It has been approximately 4 years since I last stepped foot into that humble abode which I call ‘home’. The idea of returning to La Salle Centre made me worry a little as I wondered if I could find my place again, being an “old timer”. My fears were unfounded. I did manage to find a few familiar faces there, apart from Eric, Isaac, Bro Vincent and Bro Matthew. Upon seeing many new faces, these ‘brothers and sisters’ of mine were all friendly and kind, opening up their hearts to me.
Human rights (UDHR) were the topic of discussion. Jerald Joseph, a Lasallian himself, facilitated us on the subject matter. Being a prominent human rights activist, he surely has made Lasallians all over proud of him.
My time there made me appreciate the Lasallian cause even more. It also made me realize that it gives me more joy and satisfaction than any other organization has to offer me. Apart from that, the distinct character of a true Lasallian also shown forth. Lasallians in general dare to Walk the Talk, while admitting our mistakes in order to improve ourselves.
Though I may not know most of my ‘family’ present there personally, I pray that someday we shall meet again. Till then, take care my brothers and sisters.
