Education Malaysia 2010

Dear all,

We regret to inform you that the Education Malaysia 2010 conference has been postponed to 10 May 2010. This is to accommodate the request of and ensure full participation from the Ministry of Education.

Recycling is Fun!

A second visit to the Recycling Centre materialised in January, thanks to Choulyin who got us all excited over picking through other peoples' waste.

Here are accounts of the experience by Carinne, the 'experienced one' and Lisa, the 'newbie'. Don't underestimate the fun in rubbish!

Carrine writes:

This is my second time helping at the pre-recycling center. "Pre" being that they do not recycle the stuff there itself. They only collect the items and sort them according to their substance. You know, like ‘brown brown glass, paper blue blue, orange for plastic, aluminum and steel cans too’.

We were there to do the sorting part. It was fun. We laughed, we talked, we joked, we sweat and we had fun. The most important thing is, we helped Uncle Chan clear the WHOLE place. See the before and after picture and you will know what I mean by clear. Uncle Chan is a volunteer like us if I’m not mistaken. He’s our sorting Sifu.

Anyway, it was a good three hours spent. Hope there will be more of us the next time.

Lisa writes:

23^rd January 2010 was my first time stepping into a recycling centre. I was very excited because I’ve never been to any recycling centre before. This was my first time sorting out recycling items and I thought it would be easy to handle.

When I first entered the centre, I was shocked to see different kinds of recycling items lying on the ground. The place was all messed up. After getting instructions by Pui Yi ( who invited me and my friends to the recycling centre), all of us start sorting out all the recyclable items into different boxes.

All the cardboards and coloured papers into one box, plastics into another box and etc. At first I thought doing all these would be easy and we can settle everything fast but I was wrong! We have to carefully sort out those things because some of the recyclable things ( which we thought can be recycled) cannot be recycled, so we have to throw them into another box.

I spent 2 hours at the centre enjoying myself, sorting out the recyclable items with my friends. It was very tiring as I kept myself busy sorting out the items. I actually learned a lot. I got to know what kind of plastic can be recycled and what can be reused. I also realised that we, human beings, don’t know how to save and we waste a lot!

I think not many people actually go to recycling centres to help sort the recycling items. It is very sad to hear that because there's a lot of work to do by just sorting! It is not easy as we have to open up people trash and pick out the recyclables. However, it was really fun and I felt satisfied after clearing up the recycling centre! This experience lightened up my day and it's well worth remembering and shared with my friends.

OT Signup for Regionals 2010

Dear Lasallians,

Greetings from La Salle Centre, Ipoh. We do hope that all of you are keeping well.

As preparations for the Regional Lasallian Conventions 2010 is in progress, this email is to inform you of the dates of the RLC and to invite you to sign up for the Convention as an OT(Organising Team) member.

Requirements to be an OT Member for the RLC 2010

• Must be able to commit yourself to the pre-convention preparation and the convention itself.
• Must be able to attend the full OT meeting as now there will only be one meeting(9 am – 5 pm).
• Only FT members can apply.
• Priority given to the FT members from the NLLC.

If you feel that you can fulfil these requirements then please send in your reply slip, latest by January 31, 2010. As places are limited selection to be an OT member will be on a first come first served basis.

Dates of the RLC are as follows :
Northern Region (26 - 28 March)
Southern Region (9 - 11 April)
Klang Valley (23 - 25 April)

Dates of OT Meetings are as follows :
Klang Valley (20 February)
Northern (21 February)
Southern (6 March)

Revival of Go Green! - Recycle Centre Help Out

Since our Formation Team Weekend 1 this year will only be held in March, are you feeling like your January has something missing?

Something along the lines of ... catching up with fellow Lasallians, taking a break from your daily routine, revisiting your Lasallian spirituality of faith, service and community?

Here's a chance for you to meet up with others and serve our community together, albeit for just a short while.


Recycling Centre Help Out

Help out in a recycling centre by doing some physical work like sorting items, shifting items, etc.

Unfortunately, probably only Klang Valley folks can make it for this activity.

Facilitation Weekend

La Salle Centre's programmes for 2010 began on a high note on 9 January 2010, with the Facilitation Weekend.

The weekend can be summarised as such - a meeting that lasted for more than 8 hours, filled with fun, friendship, laughing at Isaac and Eric, food, and being Lasallian. Oh yes, and of course, a developed framework for the upcoming 2010 Regional Lasallian Leaders' Convention.

Want to find out if the group of Formation Team members invited for facilitation has what it takes to step in the shoes of our wonderful facilitators from the National Convention?

Will they be able to pass on the Lasallian spirit to the Regionals delegates?

If you're wondering what is the Lasallian spirit, then you definitely should keep an eye out for updates on the Regional Conventions and sign up as an Organising Team member!
